Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A hindered phenol compound of formula (R is alkyl or aralkyl; R1 and R2 are H, alkyl, or alkoxy).
EXAMPLE: 10- ( 2',6-dimethyl-4'-t-butyl-3'-hydroxybenzyl ) -9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10- phospha-phenanthrene-10-oxide.
USE: A stabilizer and a flame-retardant for organic polymers. It is effective to prevent the deterioration of the polymer with oxidation, heat, light, combustion gas, etc.
PROCESS: For example, the nuclear-substituted or unsubstituted 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa- 10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide is condensed with 3-hydroxymethyl-6- substituted- 2,4-xylenol to obtain the compound of formula.
