Abstract
PURPOSE: In the production of ethanol from glucose raw materials by fermentation, extraction and fermentation are simultaneously carried out in the fermentation system to keep the ethanol concentration low, thus producing and collecting ethanol efficiently.
CONSTITUTION: As a fermentation raw material, is used molasses, saccharified sulfite pulp waste or saccharified starch raw material, and a microorganism in Saccharomyces, Zymomonas or Clostridium is used to make ethanol. In the fermentation tank A, the fermentation mixture 4 and the extraction solvent 6 are mixed and the mixture is sent through pipe 2 to the separator B where it is separated into the extract containing the metabolism products and the fermentation mixture containing cell bodies and ethanol. The extract is introduced through pipe 3 into the distillation column C and ethanol is collected through pipe 5. Meanwhile, the extraction solvent is recycled through pipe 6 to the tank A. The liquid fermentation mixture in the separation tank B is circulated through pipe 9 into the fermentation tank A. The cell bodies are separated by separator D and recycled through pipe 8 to the tank A.
