Abstract

PURPOSE: To shorten the reaction time, by employing as the reaction catalyst an organotin compound in which specific groups are attached to the tin atom, or an oligomer thereof, in the production of a polyester from an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and a glycol.
CONSTITUTION: In the production of a polyester from an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and a glycol, there is used as the reaction catalyst at least one compound selected from the group consisting of organotin compounds represented by formula I and II, wherein R is an alkyl, a cycloalkyl, an aryl or an aralkyl and X is -SH, -SCN or -CN, such as butyltinthiol dihydroxide, butyltin dihydroxide thioxyanate and butyltin dihydroxide cyanate, and oligomers of compounds of formula I and II. Thus, it is made possible to shorten the reaction time and to reduce an excessive charge of a glycol.
