Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the entry of molten iron into a slag spout by providing a sensor for measuring heat flow rate in the bottom of the slag spout and detecting the difference in heat flow rate between molten slag and molten iron with the sensor.
CONSTITUTION: A sensor 2 for measuring heat flow rate is buried by way of a sealing material 6 into the bottom of a slag spout 1 which is internally formed with a flow passage 5 for cooling water. While only the molten slag is flowing in the slag spout 1, the heat flow rate detected with the sensor 2 is constant and this is used as a set value. When molten iron enters the molten slag, the heat flow rate detected with the sensor 2 rises sharply. This is because the heat flow rate per unit volume of molten iron is about 3 times larger than that of molten slag. Here, the detection value detected with the sensor 2 is compared with the set value in an operator 3, and if the detected value is above the set value, an alarm is given by an alarm device 4.
