Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a surface active agent, etc., easily, in high yield, by reacting an olefinic unsaturated compound with an organic peroxide using a catalyst comprising a combination of an organometallic compound selected from Mo, V and W with an organic amine compound.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction of an olefinic unsaturated compound such as ethylene, propylene, 1-butene, etc. with an organic peroxide such as t-butyl peroxyacetate, t-butyl peroxybenzoate, etc. is carried out in the presence of a catalyst composition comprising a combination of an organometallic compound of a metal selected from Mo, V and W with an organic amine compound such as dimethylamine, pyridine, etc. at about 70W150°C to afford the titled compound. The amount of the organometallic compound is pref. 0.00001W0.1mol/mol of the organic peroxide, and that of the organic amine is pref. about 0.1W20mol/mol of the organometallic compound.
