Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A bicyclooctane derivative expressed by formula I (R1 and R2 are H or lower alkyl; X is ethylene chain or vinylene chain; Y is O or single bond; Z and Z' are H or protecting groups of OH; A is unsubstituted phenyl or phenyl subtituted by halogen, lower alkyl or trifluoromethyl).
EXAMPLE: 2β-[ 4'-( p-Fluorophenoxy )-3'-hydroxy-trans-1'-butenyl ]-3α-hydroxy-7- (3"-carboxypropoxy)-cis-bicyclo[3.3.0]octane.
USE: A remedy for ulcer with little side effects and chemically stable.
PROCESS: A nitrile derivative of formula III is hydrolyzed in a suitable solvent, and if necessary the esterification of the carboxylic acid, the removal of the protecting group or the reduction of the vinylene chain is carried out to give the compound of formula I.
