Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the agitator with which the polymerization of olefins and the like can be conducted on an industrial scale and in a continuous manner by providing at least one pair of blades on the inner side of a pair of blades of an anchor type agitator, said at least one pair of blades being orthogonal to the one pair of blades. CONSTITUTION:In the agitator for a fluidized bed used for catalytic polymerization of olefins such as ethylene, propylene, etc., the pair of the blades 5 are supported by a rotary shaft 1 and at least one pair of the blades 7 orthogonal to the blades 5 are supported on the inner side of the blades 5 by the shaft 1 through arms 8. The tip end of each of the blades 5 is acute-angled and has a right-angular cross- sectional shape, so that the fluidized bed performs such a rotational motion as to be raked inwardly, thereby preventing the produced polymer from being deposited onto the wall surface. In addition, since the blades 5, 7 are provided in the manner described above, channeling of the gas due to the formation of a vortex is prevented. Accordingly, the agitator can be operated on the industrial scale for a prolonged period of time.
