Abstract

PURPOSE: To accurately perform testing operation at the time of idle running without causing the rotary motion of a joint at idling operation in the testing device for an internal combustion engine, by arranging a clutch and the universal joint in a freely disconnectable state.
CONSTITUTION: A main shaft 15 of an internal combustion engine 13 provided with a transmission 14 internally equipping a clutch is connected to an operating shaft 16 of a dynamometer 11 through a universal joint 17 to perform testing operation for the engine 13. A cylinder device 12 of the dynamometer 11 is operated with an interlocking motion to the clutch, not shown, in the transmission 14 through a control lever 18 and operating rod 19, then the engine 13 is separated from the joint 17 at its idle running to perform testing operation for idling rotary speed of the engine itself. In this way, load influenced by the joint 17 can be eliminated.
