Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent light from leaking to the outside of the fiber by providing reflection layers consisting of a high-reflectance material on the outside of ionic crystal optical fiber strands that can transmit the light power of infrared wavelength as energy. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber cord 1 is constituted of ionic crystal optical fiber cores 2, reflection layers 3, a protective pipe 4 of Al etc. provided by being externally inserted onto these and a sheath 5 of polyethylene etc. coated on the outside circumference thereof. Since the reflection layer 3 consisting of a material having a high reflectance in the wavelength region of the light used as a light source is provided on each core 2, light is reflected thereby and will not leak to the outside. Further, the protective pipe 4 is externally inserted onto the cores 2; therefore, even if the cores 2 break, such an inconvenience as leakage of light to the outside will not occur.
