Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the laser beam amplifying device having high energy efficiency by using concentric silent discharge electrodes. CONSTITUTION:The discharging surface of the cylindrical outside electrode 20 is covered with a dielectric 10 and cooled by circulating cooling water 18 through a watering channel 20a. The rod-shaped inside electrode 21 is arranged concentrically with the electrode 20 and supported by a member 23 provided radiately at an angular interval of 90 deg.. When high voltage of high frequency is given, silent discharge is generated in a doughnut-shaped space 12. The discharge is stabilized without loss of energy, a stabilizing resistance is also unnecessitated and the efficiency of amplified energy is raised. Moreover, since laser beams 4 pass through almost all the regions of the discharging space 14, the energy of molecules excited by the silent discharge is utilized effectively for amplification of the laser beams 4, whereby the energy efficiency of the amplification is remarkably increased.
