Abstract

PURPOSE:To feed a wire with an optimal amount of ink constantly by a method wherein an ink subtank is arranged near a printing head and ink is fed from the subtank to an ink impregnating member, in the ink type wire dot printer. CONSTITUTION:An ink tank 12 is so positioned that the surface level of the ink 13 contained in it is in a pressurizing condition relative to the surface level of the ink contained in the subtank 11, and the ink is fed to the subtank 11 through an ink feed tube 14. An ink discharge tube 15 functions to keep the ink surface level in the subtank 11 constant. The subtank 11 is engaged with a bistable type electromagnet 16, which holds the subtank 11 in either one of upper and lower positions according to a printing signal. With the subtank 11 held in the upper position by a printing start signal, an ink impregnating member 10 touches the surface of the ink, so that the ink is sucked upward by the capillary action of the ink impregnating member 10 and fed to a wire 2.
