Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a higher-more wave generated in a waveguide from propagating to another device, by connecting a taper waveguide, reducing the internal diameter of the waveguide, to both or one end of the waveguide. CONSTITUTION:Into waveguide 1 whose internal shape is circular or rectangular, side-wave converting element 2 made of a dielectric plate, etc., is inserted and to both ends of waveguide 1, taper waveguide 3 for reducing its opening is connected. This waveguide 3 is a converting waveguide which reduces internal diameters of the input and output terminals of waveguide 1, and with the smaller diameter, higher- mode waves generated by element 2 will not propagate under some frequency. Thus, waveguide 3 is connected to attenuate some of higher-mode waves generated in waveguide 1 while reflecting the remainder without allowing them to propagate in the direction of connected waveguide 3.
