Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the high-temp. durability of a Pd type oxidation catalyst by allowing one or more kinds of Ce, Nd, and La to coexist and allowing Pd to exist as PdO in said catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Pd as a main catalyst and metals of one or more kinds of Ce, Nd and La as an auxiliary catalyst are carried on a carrier at least the surface whereof consists of active alumina. Thence, this is heated to a high temp. in an air atmosphere to convert most of the Pd contained to PdO. The Pd type oxidation catalyst obtained in this way has superior high-temp. durability for purifying the CO and hydrocarbons in exhaust gases.
