Abstract

PURPOSE: Titled fiber or film which shows a small difference between wet hardness and dry hardness, prepared by grafting a monomer mixture of (meth)acrylic acids onto polyamide type fiber or film, and then converting the product into an alkali salt form.
CONSTITUTION: A monomer mixture of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid (used in amounts to provide a molar ratio of 0.1W1 in the resulting graft polymer) is grafted onto polyamide type fiber or film such as nylon 6, nylon 66 or nylon 8. The degree of grafting is preferably 15% or higher, and as a grafting method oxidation-reduction grafting using a redox catalyst is preferred. Next, titled fiber or film suitable as a material for sanitary articles, sportswears, etc., is obtained by treating the graft polymer with a solution of an alkali metal salt such as sodium carbonate and thereby replacing the grafted acidic groups with the alkali metal salt.
