Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect ultraviolet rays with excellent precision without using a visible radiation intercepting filter by a method wherein a signal component of a light-receiving element detectig the ultraviolet rays, which is caused by the visible radiation, is canceled by the output of the 2nd light- receiving element having a property of spectroscopic sensitivity equivalent to the former in the region of the visible radiation. CONSTITUTION:Silica glass 6 having a fluorescent body layer 7 at the back surface thereof is provided and also a sharp-cut filter 10 is provided through the intermediary of the layer 7, whereby the light-receiving element A is prepared. In the element A, the visible radiation obtained through conversion from ultraviolet rays by means of a photoelectric semiconductor 9 is transduced into electric current or voltage, while unnecessary radiation on the side of shorter wavelength than that of luminescence, which is converted into the visible radiation emitted from the layer 7 by the ultraviolet rays under the presence of the visible radiation from a window part 5, is intercepted by the filter 10. Meanwhile, the light-receiving element B is provided with glass 11 not transmitting ultraviolet rays and a filter 10 at the window part 5 thereof, while not being provided with a fluorescent body layer 7. These light-receiving elements A and B are connected with each other in series in the reverse directions by using lead wires 2 of a stem 8 so that the outputs thereof at the time of nonirradiation of ultraviolet rays cancel each other, and photoelectric current flowing terminals (a) and (b) is measured, whereby detection of the ultraviolet rays is performed.
