Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the edge drop in the top of the slab, and to enable the edging work to effect a large breadth reduction in the slab, by making the rolling reduction effected in a pass designated with an even numeral equal to or larger than the rolling reduction effected in the former pass designated with an odd numeral. CONSTITUTION:The edging work is carried out by VSB (vertical scale breaker) through plural passes in which the rolling reduction effected in a pass designated with an even numeral is specified to be larger than that effected in the former pass designated with an odd numeral. Therein, the pass of an even numeral in the totally five passes, for example, means the second pass and the fourth pass; whereas the pass of an odd numeral means the first, the third and the fifth passes. Thereby the former pass of an odd numeral corresponds to the first pass against the second pass and the third pass against the fourth pass. However, the large rolling reduction in the pass of an even numeral and the small rolling reduction in the pass of an odd numeral are not always effected in this manner; in the case of five passes for example, it is possible to carry out the rolling work with a uniform rolling reduction in the first to the fourth passes and a light rolling reduction in the fifth pass for obtaining a sufficient effect.
