Abstract
PURPOSE: To effect accurate and easy measurement by using two kinds of specific solutions.
CONSTITUTION: An absorption bottle 1 contains an alkaline solution containing a compound selected from a group consisting of KOH, K2CO3, NaOH and Na2CO3, while absorption bottles 2, 3 contain sulfuric solution of KMnO4. These bottles are connected in series between an air pump 4 and a wet-type gas meter 5. The gas as the measuring object is inhered sucessively through bottles 1W3 by the operation of the air pump 4. The whole part of the SO2 gas contained by the measured gas is absorbed in the bottle 1, while the whole part of the mercury is absorbed in the bottles 2 and 3. The sulfuric KMnO4 solution absorbing the mercury is collected and is analyzed by an ordinary atomic absorption spectrum analysis method. Thus, it is possible to measure the mercury in an SO2 containing gas easily and accurately, while avoiding any interference by SO2.
