Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare granular agar, by blowing a spray of a proper amount of water on finely divided particle agar with a low water content with stirring.
CONSTITUTION: Finely divided particle agar prepared by a well-known method is adjusted to a mesh not less than 80 and a water content not more then 6wt%. The resulting agar is added gradually to a blender which is rotating, and the agar is uniformly sprayed with water in an amount adjusted to make the water content of the final product about 15W20wt% from an atomizer set in the blender so that the agar is granulated. The agar having undergone spraying of water and blending is allowed to stand in the blender for about 15hr so that it is set in granular state. After a constant time, the agar is subjected to a vibratory screen, selected and separated to give agar having an arranged particle size 20W24 mesh.
