Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect faults of balanced cables automatically by putting a balanced cable on a terminal side into switching operation by applying a DC voltage to a balanced cable on an office side in the opposite direction of communication. CONSTITUTION:To check balanced cables L and L' with regard to a fault, a DC voltage is applied to the balanced cable on office side 2 from electric power source 3 in the opposite direction of a call to excite relay 6 on this side of terminal side 1. As relay 6 operates, contact 7 is opened and relay 6 is not excited any more, closing contact 7. The above-mentioned operation is repeated to send a pulse from terminal side 1 to office side 2, so that the fault can be detected. In the call, relay 6 is not excited by diodes 8 and 8'.
