Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound readily, in high yield and in a short time, by heating an isomer of (ea) or (ae) type monosubstituted cyclohexane-1-carboxylic acid, in the presence (absence) of a medium inert to said isomer.
CONSTITUTION: An isomer of an equatorial-axial (ea) type monosubstituted cyclohexane-1-carboxylic acid, e.g. a compound prepared by exchanging a carboxylic group of a 4-n-pentylcyclohexane-1-carboxylic acid expressed by formula I (R is n-C5H11) with a heavy hydrogen, etc., or an axial-equatorial (ae) type isomer, e.g. a compound of formula II, etc., is heated at 150W400°C, in the presence (absense) of an inert solvent, to give an equatorial-equatorial (ee) type monosubstituted cyclohexane-1-carboxylic acid, e.g. a compound of formula III. This method is inexpensive, using a solvent for crystallization only or a small amount of a reaction solvent.
