Abstract

PURPOSE: To protect iron and steel structures in the ocean environment against sea water corrosion for a long period by subjecting said structures to the combination of corrosion prevention by Al coating with electrolytic protection by a sarcrificial electrode method, and suppressing the elution of the coated Al by sacrificial electrodes.
CONSTITUTION: Since the tide affected parts exposed alternately to sea water and air in iron and steel structures such as steel pipe piles installed in ocean environments receive heavy corrosion, Al of ≥99.7% purity is melt-sprayed thereto to 0.15W0.25mm thickness. An alloy of Al and Hg, Sn or Ga having a potential baser by 0W100mV than that of the above-mentioned Al is mounted as the 1st sacrificial anodes within a range of 1,000mm below these Al-melt-sprayed parts and further the 2nd sacrificial anode of the same quality as that of the 1st electrode is mounted in a range of 1,000mm below said 1st anodes. The excessive elution of the Al melt- sprayed layer provided to the tidal parts of the iron and steel structures is prevented by the effect of these anodes, and the iron and steel structures are prevented from corrosion over a long period in the sea.
