Abstract
PURPOSE: To easily and effectively execute crater treatment in particular in electron beam welding by welding one of the objects to be welded in its longitudinal direction in continuation with the welding of their circumferential joint part then projecting a crater by welding on a tab plate mounted to the end part of this longitudinal welded joint part.
CONSTITUTION: In electron beam welding of a pressure vessel, a boiler, etc., a tab plate 8 is mounted to the end part of the longitudinal joint part 2 of one, for example, the material 1 to be welded, of the materials 1, 1' to be welded. Thence, while the materials 1, 1' are being rotated, an electron beam 4 is irradiated to weld a circumferential joint part 3. After the materials 1, 1' are rotated twice, the rotation is stopped. Upon stopping of the rotation, the materials 1, 1' or an electron gun is moved along the joint part 2 and the joint part 2 is welded in continuation with the welding of the joint part 3. Next, this plate 8 is removed, whereby the weld zone in which no weld defect is observed, and is free from crater cracking, bead cracking, etc. is obtained.
