Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an electrode of a resistance welding machine which is so constituted as to permit easy exchanging of a consumable electrode tip and to prevent staining of an optical fiber photodetecting end, which conducts the infrared rays emitted from the surface of a welding member during resistance welding to the outside through the optical fiber and which accurately detect temperatures.

CONSTITUTION: In order to cool this electrode, an electrode tip holder 17 is directly cooled by the water flow 6 flowing out from a water cooling pipe 5, and further a consumable electrode tip 19 is indirectly cooled by the holder 17. The clean air blown from a pipe 23 is passed through the photodetecting surface at the leading end of an optical fiber 11 through a hole 22, after which it is passed through the gap between the tip 19 and welding members 3 from a through-hole 8 and is released to the outside. Since this tip 19 is fixed removably to the holder 17 by screw construction 18 or the like, it is easily exchanged when it deforms after welding of multiple points. Owing to a pure airflow 24 the contaminating matter such as oil evaporated from the member 3 surface is passed through the gap between the electrode and the member 3 and is swept to the outside; therefore, the photodetecting end face of the fiber 11 is kept always clean.
