Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify the work for forming the tapered fitting hole for a motor vehicle or the like by absorbing the excess thickness of the tapered hole portion which is produced in cold forging into cavities provided in the tapered hole inner surface.
CONSTITUTION: Axial cavities 8 are formed at several portions in the surface of the tapered hole portion on the taper receiving side by piercing using a press. Then, said tapered hole portion is cold-forged to expand into desired dimensions. The excess thickness produced on doing this is absorbed into the cavities 8. Accordingly, a stable tapered hole portion with highly accurate dimensions can be obtained by only cold forging using a taper punch or the like.
