Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an antistatic coating film comprising a composition containing fine silica grains and having excellent surface hardness, abrasion resistance etc., by treating the coating film with an activated gas.
CONSTITUTION: A coating film is formed on a substrate by uniformly dispersing a coating composition containing 2.5W80wt% fine silica grains, average particle size of about 1W100μm, the so-called silica sol. The surface hardness of the coating film is improved by the addition of an organoscilicon compound, organic polymer, epoxy resin, etc. as other components of the coating composition. The coating composition may further contain an ultraviolet absorber effective in the improvement of weather resistance or an antioxidant effective in the improvement of a resistance to heat deterioration. After this coating composition is applied onto a substrate, preferably plastics, the coating film is treated with an activated gas which is generated by corona discharge in oxygen, air, nitrogen, argon, freon, carbonic acid or the like gas.
