Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a metal surface treating agent forming a corrosion resistant and antistain coating simultaneously on a metal surface contacted with water obtained by reacting an alkali salt of antimonious acid or/and antimonic acid, an alkaline earth metal chloride, phosphoric acid and borax. CONSTITUTION:20-35% of (A) an alkali salt of antimonious acid or/and antimonic acid (e.g.; a Na salt), 10-18% of at least one or more of (B) an alkaline earth metal chloride (e.g.; CaCl2), 45-70% of (C) phosphoric acid and 0.7- 1.1% of (D) borax are reacted to prepare the objective surface treating agent. This preparing method comprises a process wherein about a half amount of phosphoric acid to be added is mixed with one or more of a substance of said A group and borax, the resulting mixture is kneaded until a pasty mixture is formed, subsequently, a substance of said B group is added and kneaded to solidify the mixture while a small amount of Cl2 gas is generated as reaction advances and, immediately before solidification, the remainder of the phosphoric acid is added and mixed to prepare the product. By adding said surface treating agent to water, corrosion resistance and antistain property can be simultaneously imparted to a surface of a steel and other metal cantacting with the eq. soln. easily and certainly.
