Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain optical fiber of excellent watertightness at a high speed by performing a surface treatment after spinning by a treating agent containing a compound which reacts upon a silanol group, and then by covering the fiber with a plastic tape, etc. CONSTITUTION:Optical fiber, right after being spinned, is treated by a treating agent containing a compound, such as metyl trichlosilane, which reacts upon a silanol group, and then coated with a plastic tape or plastic pipe of thermoplastic resin, such as polyamide, polyvinyl chloride and polyester. Thus, the optical fiber of excellent watertightness can be manufactured by spinning.
