PURPOSE:To highly accurately and automatically measure the amount of radioactive nuclide existing in the drum-canned solidified substance by accurately measuring the specific gravity of said substance needed when making correction of its self-shielding effect for the measured value of gamma rays. CONSTITUTION:To a computer 7, the output of an automatic weighing machine 2, the positional signal of an elevating table 6 and the detection output of a gamma-ray detector 5 have been inputted to calculate the specific gravity of the solidified substance in the steel drum. In addition, according to the calculated specific gravity, the computer 7 makes correction of the self-shielding effect of the solidified substance for the detection output of the gamma-ray detector 5 momentarily obtained as the drum- canned solidified substance 1 is moved by a rotary elevating table 3 as well as makes correction of the detection efficiency therefor according to the data previously inputted, to calculate the whole number of curie of the nuclide existing in the solidified substance and outputs it to a terminal 9.
