Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure total amount of charged material and eliminate influence of error factors such as variation of bulk density of wall thickness, by a method wherein a detector comprising a radiation source and organic phosphor is disposed near the outlet of a hopper. CONSTITUTION:Neutron and gamma-ray which emanate from a radiation source 5 penetrate an iron manufacture charging material 1 traveling near an outlet and reach an organic phosphor 7. The detected output is entered thrugh an integrator 12 and a wave form shaping circuit 13 into awave-form/ wave-crest converter 14, and count values of neutrol and gamma-ray are outputted fro a wave crest analyzer 15, 16. When a gate 3 of a hopper 2 is closed, output of a counter 19, 20 is set to a memory 23, 24; when the gate 3 is opened, it is set to a memory 25, 26. Moisture and bulk density are determined by a moisture operation member 27 and a bulk density operation member 28, and according toa result of the determination the bulk density is corrected by a correction operation member 29 and true moisture is indicated at a display member 30. Thereby error factors such as wall thickness variation, source attenuation, and sensitivity variation in detecting system can be corrected at each time.
