Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable measurement of the size of an obstacle and the interval of a gap by dividing a reflection plate into many small pieces and by varying the distance between each small-piece reflection plate and a transducer. CONSTITUTION:The reflection plate 9 arranged inside the container of a nuclear reactor is divided, for instance, into six pieces laterally within the range of the width theta of an ultrasonic beam emitted from the transducer 8 and further is shaped into a staged form so as to vary the distance between the respective small piece of the divided reflection plate and the transducer 8. Likewise, the reflection plate is divided, for instance, into three pieces longitudinally as well and shaped into a staged form so as to give the difference in distance to each small-piece reflection plate. By this constitution, time differnce is caused in echo received and, therefore, by discriminating the echo masked by the obstacle, the measurement of the size of the obstacle and the interval of the gap becomes possible.
