NEW MATERIAL:An N-benzylthiocarbonyl-O-benzylserine compound of formula I (R1 is phenyl, phenyl substituted by 1W2 lower alkyl groups; R2 is phenyl or phenyl which is substituted by halogen, etc.; R3 is hydroxyl group, lower alkoxyl group, etc.) or a salt thereof.
USE: A remedy for lipemia having a powerful antilipemic action and with slight side effects, e.g. hepatic dysfunction.
PROCESS: An O-benzylserine compound of formula II is reacted with a benzylthiocarbonyl halode of formula III (X1 is halogen) in a suitable solvent in the presence of a deacidifying agent, e.g. an inorganic base, at -50W50°C to give a compound of formula IV.
