Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent clogging and provide an easy-to-maintain device by passing polluted air through filters from the direction opposite to the gravity direction.
CONSTITUTION: Polluted air contg. mist is charged when it passes a mist charging device 34 consisting of a discharge electrode 14 and a ground electrode 16. The charged mist 30 enter the adjacent flow passages partitioned by a partition wall, changes the flow direction by 180° and pass through filters 18. The mist 30 captured by the filters 18 stick and flocculate to each other in the filters 18, and accumulate and when they grow to a certain size, they turn into liquid drops 32, and are dislodged from the filters 18, thence they drop into a mist storage tank 20 and are stored therein. If dusts exist together with the mists in the polluted air, the suspended dusts are generally larger than the grain sizes of the mists and are therefore captured on the inflow side of the filters 18. Thereupon, they assume the state of temporarily causing clogging, but at the same time the mists are captured and therefore the dust is dislodged together with the mists from the filters 18, thus the occurrence of clogging of the filters 18 is obviated.
