NEW MATERIAL:A phosphorus-containing phenolic compound shown by the formula I [R is 4W12C branched alkyl, cycloalkyl, or aralkyl; X1WX3 are H, halogen, (cyclo)alkyl, or aralkyl].
USE: An antioxidant for organic high polymers, e.g., polyolefin, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, polyamide, rubber, synthetic fibers, etc.
PROCESS: A compound shown by the formula II (e.g., 9,10-dihydro-9-phospha-10- oxaphenanthrane-9-oxide, etc.) is reacted with a compound shown by the formula III (e.g., 2,6-dimethyl-3-dihydroxy-4-tertiarybutylbenzyl chloride, etc.), to give a compound shown by the formula I wherein R is t-butyl and X1WX3 are all H.
