Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve an absorbing rate of beam energy of mother welding material and make possible to conduct the deep penetration welding of narrow width, by generating a plasma being simultaneously provided with a jet gas while laser beam welding being conducted and supplying there at the same time another gas from a direction with specific angles. CONSTITUTION:When a laser beam 16 from nozzle 30 and shielding gas 32 are irradiated and supplied to the butting surface of materials 26 to be welded for welding, a gas supplying nozzle 40 is directed from an oblique direction and jet gas 42 such as He, Ar, N etc. is ejected through the nozzle 40 so that the plasma 34 will be generated above the welding point. Thus, the material 26 is heated and welded with high energy efficiency by the aid of said gas plasma 34 as a secondary energy source. At this time, the welding operation is conducted by keeping a central axis l2 of the jet gas flow 42 so as to have an angle theta(30 deg.-80 deg.) to a central axis l2 of the laser beam 16 and an angle alpha(+ or -60 deg.) in a horizontal surface involving the welding line.
