Abstract

PURPOSE:To make possible the detection of the liquid level in a mold in the absence of contact by providing a signal processing unit which photographs the liquid level in the mold with a television camera, cuts out the photographed image plane, and compresses the signal thereby detecting the liquid level. CONSTITUTION:Molten steel 3 is flowed from a tundish 2 into a mold 1, and the liquid level A thereof is photographed with a television camera 4, and the entire part of the upper part of the mold 1 is projected on the image plane of a monitor 6. Only the part B is cut out by a signal cutout circuit 7. In the part B, XR is integrated from the section XL in a scanning direction X in an integrating circuit 8, and the two-dimensional signal is compressed to one-dimensional signal. From the change in the integrated value, the liquid level A is detected in a threshold circuit 9. The information of the scanning line number corresponding to the liquid level A is inputted via a control circuit 10 to a video adder 11, which in turn projects the scanning line of the liquid level A on the monitor 6. The operator observes whether the scanning line coincides with the liquid level A projected on the monitor 6 or not.
