Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate separation of very fine corpuscles or irregularly shaped materials, by combination of rotation and revolution of a centrifugal pipe.
CONSTITUTION: When a rotor 1 is revolved around an axis X, a centrifugal pipe T1, being connected with gears 5, 6, is rotated along an arrow around an axis Y at the same time. Under this condition, a material containing fine corpuscles to be separated is charged through a pipe P1'. As an example, 0.8ml of a pretreated isotonic sodium chloride solution suspending blood corpuscles containing erythrocyte and leucocyte at a ratio of 1:1 was charged in the centrifugal separator. The gradual precipitation of the blood corpuscles was observed with the light of a stroboscope whose on-off was synchronized with the revolution of the rotor 1. After 5min, the solution in the centrifugal pipe T1 was sufficiently separated to a red erythrocyte layer A1 at the bottom, a slightly grayish and turbid leucocyte layer B1 on the layer A1, and a transparent salt water layer C1 on the layer B1. This state of separation was maintained, as it was.
