Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase curing speed and improve mold strength by adding and coating a solid resol type phenolic resin and a specific solid novolak type phenol resin to and on heated sand.
CONSTITUTION: Heated sand is added and coated to and thereon with a solid resol type phenolic resin and the solid novolak type phenolic resin prepd. by adding 0.05W50pts.wt. at least one kind of hydroxide and oxide of alkali metals and hydroxide and oxide of alkaline earth metals to 100pts.wt. a solid novolak type phenol. This prevents the reaction of the solid resol type phenolic resin at the time when it starts melting, by adding metallic alkalis which is a curing accelerator, to the solid novolak type phenolic resin. Since metallic alkalis are contained in the resin coated sand, the cuting speed increases and since the solid novolak type phenolic resin is contained, the hot flow properties are improved and the coated sand provides good mold strength.
