Abstract
PURPOSE: To sterilize soil and destory insects therein with high safety and through simple operations effectively, by injecting a soil fumigant into the soil, and scattering a soil coagulating liquid agent over the soil to form an evaporation preventing layer on the soil surface with a small amount of the fumigant.
CONSTITUTION: A soil fumigant is injected into a soil, and a soil coagulating liquid agent is scattered over the soil to form an evaporation preventing layer on the soil surface and sterilize the soil. The soil coagulating liquid agent is an aqueous emulsion, e.g. vinyl acetate, having a soil particle bonding ability at a temperature of 25°C or below or a water-soluble sizing agent, e.g. an alkali salt of polyacrylic acid. The coagulating liquid agent is used preferably in a concentration of about 2W10wt%. The fumigant evaporation preventing layer formed on the soil surface suppresses the rate at which the fumigant will be evaporated and lost from the soil in the atmosphere and makes the fumigant reside in the soil during a period required for the fumigant diffusing into the soil uniformly and developing the sterilizing and insecticidal effect thereof.
