Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture roundish rice-shaped granular ammonium sulfate of a large grain size having superior anticaking properties by adding nitric acid or ammonium nitrate to mother liquor of ammonium sulfate and crystallizing ammonium sulfate from the liquor.
CONSTITUTION: Satd. mother liquor 2 of ammonium sulfate is poured in mother liquor vesel (saturator) 1, and while slightly agitating liquor 2 with agitator 3, 1W 10% ammonium nitrate or 1W10% nitric acid (expressed in terms of ammonium nitrate) is added to liquor 2 as habit modifier 4. While circulating supernatant mother liquor contg. no ammonium sulfate crystal to crystallization vessel 5, ammonium sulfate 6 is deposited in vessel 5 and taken out of vessel 5 as shown by arrow 6A.
