Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a highly water-absorbing macromolecular material suitable for use in forming a film, by adding an epoxy compd. to a polymer obtd. by adding a vinyl monomer contg. a vinyl-carboxylic acid (or a precursor) to an aq. soln. of a hydrophilic arom. polyester to effect the reaction between the reactants and neutralizing the resulting product.
CONSTITUTION: 95W40pts.wt. vinyl monomer (B) contg. a vinyl-carboxylic acid (e.g. acrylic acid) or a precursor thereof (e.g. acrylonitrile) is added to 5W60pts.wt. (on a solids basis) aq. soln. of a hydrophilic arom. polyester (A) (e.g. sulfonic group-contg. polyester) to effect the reaction between the reactants. If necessary, the resulting product is hydrolyzed and then neutralized by the addition of an alkali. An epoxy compd. having at least two glycidyl groups is added to the product to obtain the titled material. For example, paper or a woven fabric is coated or impregnated with said material. The resulting product is heated and dried to effect the crosslinking. Alternatively, said material is coated on a flat substrate, dried and heated to effect the crosslinking in order to form a sheet.
USE: Sanitary commodities, diaper and disposable duster.
