Abstract

PURPOSE:To discriminate condition of an interpole space by detecting length of the interpole space by providing an interpole space condition discriminating means as an electrode position detecting means at electric discharge machining. CONSTITUTION:A digital scale 34 mounted on an electrode supporting rod 32 generates pulse SP in plus direction when an electrode 10 moves downward in the figure and generates pulse SN in minus direction when it moves upward. To accurately know length of an interpole space, pulses below 10mum/pulse are generated. A bilateral counter 36 indicates the difference between the most advanced position of the electrode 10 sent into a work 14 and a present position of the electrode 10. Therefore, output from a digital-analog converter 40 is a voltage which is in proportion to said difference, and by detecting and processing the output V0 , an actual condition of the interpole space can be known.
