Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the position of the material to be measured in the absence of power sources by returning the light leaked from optical fibers which are wound to a small radius of curvature to the original fiber by using an optical input movable body changing with the positions of the material to be measured. CONSTITUTION:The light from a light source 15 is branched 30 and is inputted to one end part of two fiber coils 14a, 14b. The light outputted from the other end part of the first fiber coil 14a is always the reference light of a fixed quantity of light because the opposing areas of the fiber coil 14a and surface mirror 18 are invariable. This reference light is supplied to a photodetector 31, by which a reference voltage E0 is obtained. On the other hand, the measuring light outputted from the 2nd fiber coil 14b changes because the opposing surfaces of the surface mirror 18 and the 2nd fiber coil 14b change with the positions of the material to be measured. This measuring light is supplied to the photodetector 34, by which the measuring voltage EX is obtained. From the difference between EX and E0, the position of the material to be measured is detected.
