Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible the manufacture of a compact charger by a method wherein the plural number of the streams of dielectric layers are provided at specified intervals on the surface of a drum for conveying recording paper, and an a.c. corona charger having a d.c. bias is used above the layers to eliminate charging.
CONSTITUTION: In the method of periodically providing dielectric layers 6a at specified intervals 6b on a drum 6 for conveying recording paper in an ink-jet recorder and allowing recording paper 7 to tightly clamp on the drum 6 by charging the layers with electricity to increase the differentiation of the electric field, a single corona charger 15 provided with a d.c. bias and an a.c. charger power source 14 is placed in the neighborhood of the periphery of the drum 6 for conveying the recording paper to charge the dielectric layer 6a with electricity negatively (-) [or positively (+)] by giving a d.c. bias to the negative side (-) [or positive side (+)] when conveying the recording paper for attracting the recording paper 7 to the drum 6 and letting the paper clamp on the drum, and to eliminate the electric charge in the dielectric layer 6a up to almost nearly zero by giving the d.c. bias to the positive (+) [or negative (-)] side when the recording has been completed.
