Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible the long-time continuous use of an electrode roll by causing pressure-contacting of hard metal and hard metal at a stationary central part and a rotating part, and providing lubricating oil holding parts adjacently to the contact parts thereof.

CONSTITUTION: In the electrode roll, a hard-metal-made inner ring 42 is provided to a stationary central part 10 and a hard-metal-made outer ring 43 to a rotating part 20. The effluence of the conductive liquid metal contained in the gap part 32 and the entry of air into the gap part 32 from the outside are prevented by the contact part 54 of both. In this case, the lubricating oil in the micro-gap 51 between both rings 42 and 43 is sucked into the contact part 54 by capillarity, whereby an oil film is formed. This oil film exists irrespective of whether the rotation part 20 is held stopped or is rotating. Further the lubricating oil is filled in the gap 51; therefore, the sealing is perfect. An elastic part 45 makes the sliding of the contact part 54 easy, thereby preventing the abrasion of the contact surface owing to sliding.
