Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the classifying efficiency of selecting the characters that become the candidate for identification from degrading by constituting the device of a data tablet, a pen, a character input part, a character synthesizing part, a collating part, a dictionary and a deciding part. CONSTITUTION:By drawing of the characters desired to be inputted on a data tablet 1 with a pen 2, writing order and stroke information together with the data thereof are obtained in a character input part 3. A character synthesizing part 4 synthesizes a character pattern from the data obtained in the input part 3. The character parttern is sent to a preprocessing part 5, where it is subjected to normalization of a known size and thickening processing of segments, thence it is supplied to a collating part 6. The collating part 6 calculates the degree of resemblance of the input character pattern. Namely, multiple standard patterns are contained in a dictionary 7, the degrees of resemblance of each thereof and the input character pattern are obtained, the standard patterns of which the degree of resemblance are above the predetermined value are determined as the candicate characters for the input character pattern and this is informed to a deciding part 8. In the deciding part 8, the character belonging to the input character is decided by the stroke information among the candicates.
