Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce CO and NOx contained in the exhaust gas at low cost and thereby to detoxicate the exhaust gas by a method wherein the exhaust gas containing NOx and CO discharged from the sintering furnace is oxidized to remove the CO, and the generated heat of oxidation is utilized for the denitrification of the exhaust gas.
CONSTITUTION: The exhaust gas containing harmful gases such as NOx and CO discharged from the sintering furnace is oxidized by using manganese ore as an oxidation catalyst at a low temperature of 100W250°C, thereby converting CO to harmless CO2. The exhaust gas containing NOx is heated to a high temperature by the generated heat of oxidation, then ammonia is added as a reducing agent and the gaseous mixture is introduced into a denitrating reaction vessel to reduce the NOx to harmless substance. Accordingly, since cheap manganess ore can be used as an oxidation catalyst for CO and the heat of oxidation of CO can be utilized, the CO and NOx in the exhaust gas can be removed at low cost by oxidation and reduction, respectively.
