Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve dispersibility of magnetic powder to improve durability of the magnetic recording medium, by using a specific modified polyurethane resin and the vinyl chloride-vinyl propionate copolymer as binder components. CONSTITUTION:3-50wt% low molecular weight polyisocyanate (C) of <=10,000 molecular weight such as 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate is mixed with the composite where modified polyurethane resin (A) of 10,000-100,000 average molecular weight containing polyurethane molecules, where hydroxyl groups in positions other than both ends of the principal chain are connected directly to the principal chain, and vinyl chloride vinyl proproanate copolymer (B) of 200-600 are polymerization degree are mixed in the weight ratio of 9:1-1:9, thereby obtaining binder components. Next, the magnetic coating material obtained by dispersing these binder components and magnetic powder in the organic solvent is applied onto the substance and is dried to form a magnetic layer. As a result, a magnetic recording medium is obtained which is superior in electric conversion characteristics such as the output and the SN ratio.
