Abstract
PURPOSE:To realize a low cost and high reliability, by transmitting two optical signals of different lengths on an optical fiber and in the opposite direction to each other and then returning the optical signal of a wavelength received at the both stations of the faulty area by the optical signal having the other wavelength. CONSTITUTION:Each station is composed of the optical couplers C1 and C2, transmitters T1 and T2, receivers R1 and R2, switches SW1-SW3 plus logic part L. In the normal time, the loop 40 of wavelength lambda1 is connected to the optical fiber cable 10 via C1 R1 L SW3 T1 C2, and the loop 50 of wavelength lambda2 is connected to the cable 10 in the order of C2 R2 L SW2 T2 C1, respectively. Thus in case the line fault 60 arises, the loop-back function of stations 20 and 30 adjacent to the faulty area works. In other words, the switch SW1 is closed, and the signal is returned at the station 20 in a route of C1 R1 L SW3 SW1 T2 C1. The signal is returned in the station 30 in a route of C2 R2 L SW2 SW1 T1 C2.
