Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect a gross volume of ultraviolet rays to expose easily by a method wherein a matter with activation energy of electric conduction corresponding to ultraviolet rays is provided on a main electrode, and a salt solution containing Mn<2+> is interposed between it and an opposite electrode. CONSTITUTION:An anode oxide film 2 is formed on a main electrode 1 of valve action metal like tantalum, titanium or aluminum. Then, a DC voltage is impressed between the main electrode 1 and an opposite electrode 4 consisting of a chemically inert metal like tantalum, titanium, platinum, etc., and these are sealed in a vessel 6 of ultraviolet ray transmissive material with a salt solution containing Mn<2+> ion as an electrolyte 3. When ultraviolet rays are applied to the anode oxide film 2, a light current is induced, MnO2 is formed on the anode oxide film 2, and a volume of MnO2 is proportional to a gross volume of ultraviolet rays. Then, the volume of the educed MnO2 is measured through a relative value of absorption of a white light in reference to the same detecting element totally free from an experience of ultraviolet ray irradiation.
