PURPOSE:To improve the recording density by providing a means of changing inclinations of the supporting tool of a recording and reproducing head, and by making it possible to set differently the slanting angle of a head gap in the track direction corresponding to every adjacent tracks of a magnetic tape. CONSTITUTION:Head base 27 equipped with magnetic erasing head 26 is supported on supporting table 28. As screw bar 29 is rotated by pulse motor 42 via gear 41, magnetic head 26 can be moved in the width direction of the magnetic tape via guide parts 31a and 31b together with supporting table 28. On the other hand, head base 35 equipped with magnetic recording and reproducing head 25 is fitted to supporting table 36. As screw bar 37 is rotated by pulse motor 44 via gear mechanism 43, head 25 can be inclined to the recording tracks of an endless table together with supporting table 36 coupling with the bar. Slanting angles of head 25 to tracks are made different, so that the recording density can be improved.
